Tell us how did you first become an apprentice:
I first became an apprentice in a previous role, and I jumped at the chance as I wanted to gain new skills and give myself additional skills to help with progression. My journey started when I left 6th form, and our only careers advice was around going to university or joining the armed forces. I, like many, just went to University as that was the thing to do, but I quickly realised that my heart was in it. I went to Abersytwyth University to study Geography, but halfway through the 2nd year, I decided to leave and begin working. I ended up moving to Coventry where I started an admin role for LearnDirect, and this is where I started to hear more about apprenticeships and enrolled onto a Level 3. After moving to the Department for Education, I completed my level 4 apprenticeship whilst working on the communications and events team, where most of my role was around attending career fairs and working on national campaigns.
Tell us about your current apprenticeship role:
My current role is Project Manager within the Employer Advocacy and Ambassador Network team. The 2 main projects that I help to lead on is The National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards and National Apprenticeship Week . I cover everything from Business Case and Procurement through to event planning and delivery, which gives me a huge amount of experience.
Tell us why you wanted to become an apprentice ambassador:
I became an ambassador as I wanted to help ensure that everyone was aware of the choices that they have, whether that is when you are leaving school, searching for an alternative after University, or looking to change career. Apprenticeships have made huge strides forward in the scope of the programme, and it is a real alternative for anyone who wants to improve themselves. Some of the best days I have had at work is being able to celebrate the real life stories of the award winners or amazing ambassadors in the projects that I work on, and I wanted to be a part of that journey.
