TELL US HOW YOU FIRST BECAME AN APPRENTICE:
After Sixth Form, I moved onto University as I was taught that is was the only correct option for school-leavers. University wasn’t at all like I expected, I didn’t get on with the teaching style or the typical Uni lifestyle that you feel pressured to fall into. So I dropped out halfway through my first year, as I wanted to search for a degree apprenticeship. I took a gap year and went travelling, then applied for degree apprenticeships once I was back. I saw the Laing O’Rourke position advertised on the gov.uk webpage, applied, and after completing my assessment centres, got the job!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT APPRENTICESHIP ROLE:
My role at work is a data analyst. I help to connect data sources from across the company, and turn the raw data into visualisations and dashboards to present to key stakeholders. My work also forms a large part of business reporting, where we report on KPIs across our whole portfolio of construction projects. I also host meetings with project teams to teach them how to use Power BI dashboards.
TELL US WHY YOU WANTED TO BECOME AN APPRENTICE AMBASSADOR:
I want to become an ambassador as I’d like to spread the word about apprenticeships and teach school students that university is not the only path. There are so many benefits to apprenticeships and it is the best decision I’ve ever made. I want to help students with the application process, and guide them on how to ace their interview and overcome their nerves. I also enjoy content creation so would love to create videos on there topics to post on LinkedIn/other online networks.
