TELL US HOW YOU FIRST BECAME AN APPRENTICE:
My journey to becoming an apprentice was not a typical one. After leaving school, I went to college and later drama school to study acting. When I returned home in 2022, I worked in hospitality and sales while trying to decide on a new career path.
In 2024, I began studying AAT bookkeeping with a private tutor while working full-time, as I wanted to move into the finance sector. My tutor introduced me to the idea of accountancy apprenticeships and showed me how to find vacancies. I applied for a role with my current employer through a training provider and, after several interviews, was offered the job. Since then, I haven’t looked back
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT APPRENTICESHIP ROLE:
My current role – I do many things this is where I prepare Tax returns on the behalf of the client and send them to review before submission for HMRC, I also work internally on Tax Review on our vulnerable clients, this is where I take all the information provided and completed tax computations to calculate the tax owed or due. I liaise with HMRC directly on our client’s behalf on several matters. I assist on complicated tax matters e.g Tax on the estate, HMRC disclosures. I draft contact with clients and other business to request information that is needed.
TELL US WHY YOU WANTED TO BECOME AN APPRENTICE AMBASSADOR:
I want to become an ambassador to spread awareness to people that may not know that these opportunities existed. I grew up in a low-income background and was always told that I would never amount to anything. To me if I inspire one person then I have done my job as an apprentice ambassador because being an apprentice has changed my life and I want to inspire the same for others.
In addition to this when I was in school it was university or apprenticeship were manual Labour E.g Bricklaying/Carpenter. There are now so many more opportunities being missed because people simply don’t know that they exist.
