Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
Being able to study for a degree fully funded for you whilst also able to gain a salary AND learn from industry professionals daily – seemed a no brainer. And it is. The support you have in a company who is investing in your future has helped me so much. I was also looking for an apprenticeship locally to where I live, Nielsen are a global company and have a great apprenticeship scheme.
Please describe your experience
In my first year rotation, I worked in the analytics team delivering data and insight to clients in the FMCG industry. My highlight was presenting to the largest spirits client in the UK! I’m in the marketing department for my second year which involves supporting through internal, external communications and helping to orchestrate client events. Marketing is such a cross functional department and I truly enjoy it!
How has your apprenticeship helped you progress in your career?
The apprenticeship has helped me to develop professionally through building my skills such as my confidence, public speaking, time management, attention to detail. Personally, it has also allowed me to mature much faster as I feel you are given responsibility early on, which helps you to gain insight into the business world.
What do you feel are the advantages of doing an apprenticeship over other training or education?
An apprenticeship can be fast paced but that makes it even more rewarding. I would say the main advantage is being able to apply the theory learnt in the classroom to real life business opportunities through combining university and work. Being able to earn a salary which is competitive whilst studying is also a huge advantage.
