Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I achieved 4 A levels in photography, fine art, english lit and english language, but decided that i didn’t want to continue studying at university because I didn’t want to get into debt and have to pay back a student loan.

I saw an online advert for a customer service apprentice at Facemedia and thought that it would be a good additional qualification to have alongside my a levels

After i achieved the apprenticeship i was taken on permanently as a full time member of the team.i have now been a customer service adviser with Facemedia for 4 years and have recently started helping with the operational management of the company.

Please describe your experience

My training was delivered entirely in the workplace.i already had achieved maths and english GCSE’s at grade C or above so just had to concentrate on the customer service side of things.

My assessor visited me at work once a month to set me new targets and give me feedback on my progress. I also had to build an portfolio to show I could meet the required standards.

How has your apprenticeship helped you progress in your career?

I am now managing a small team and am responsible for ensuring we all meet our targets. I am still working for the same company and am just about to start a level 5 departmental manager apprenticeship.

What do you feel are the advantages of doing an apprenticeship over other training or education?

I really benefited from being trained entirely in the workplace on a 1:1 basis rather than as art of a group in a classroom situation. Not having to pay back a student loan has also been a big advantage for me along with now being able to progress into management.
